Well, it looks like the teaser text on the home page got you here, so i might as well give up the goods! ^_^

 

“External Combustion II” is a reiteration of a show we did last year in recognition of the Long Beach Grand Prix. That show was put together in two weeks (as i didn’t get the idea to do it until the last minute) with the help of some super-cool artists and 13 die-cast metal toy cars made by Jada Toys (in my opinion, the best of their kind). Despite the small scale of that show, and the hurried manner in which it was put together, it turned out to be a wonderful success! Somehow Jada Toys got word of what we were doing and the question came up, “How can we get involved?” At that point we knew we had something. . .

 

A few months later we contacted an artist who was a friend of a friend about putting some artwork in our 1-year anniversary show last August. That artist was Tracy Tubera. And lo and behold, he works for Jada Toys (he designed the successful “Chub City” line of toys)!! We talked about the “External Combustion” show, and Tracy was all too excited about helping us officially hook up with Jada Toys to do something together. . .

 

So now, with the efforts of Tracy Tubera, the generosity of Jada Toys, the participation of 38 artists (Blaine Fontana, The Pizz, and Robert Kruse to name a few...), and the vision of Alpha Cult, we present “EXTERNAL COMBUSTION II” opening April 14th, 2007!

 

This show features 38 customized Jada Toys 1:24 scale die-cast metal Scion xB cars (a BIG jump up from last year!). In addition to this, we’ll have some 2-D artwork in the show as well (depicting cars/car culture)!

 

The opening reception is going to be unlike any other we’ve held with music by our resident DJs Púr One & Namo, a LIVE in-store painting session by female graffiti artist Sesoh, and special door prizes, giveaways, and a raffle for some really COOL goodies provided by the good folks of Jada Toys, Scion, and Audiobahn (car stereo equipment manufacturer)!!! i mean, as if the art wasn’t enough.....^_^
